Home > Special Ballot WILL YOU BE AWAY DURING THE ELECTION PERIOD? A Special Ballot is a means for an elector to cast a ballot in the upcoming Fort McMurray-Conklin and Innisfail-Sylvan Lake by-elections, if he or she is unable to vote during the advance polls or on polling day. A Special Ballot can be sent to the elector, on request, or the elector can vote at the Returning Officer’s office. A Special Ballot can be requested upon the issuance of the Writ of election. Requests for mail-out Special Ballot packages can only be requested up until 6:00 p.m. the Monday prior to advance polls opening. In person requests at the office of the returning officer can be made until the close of polls on polling day. A properly completed Special Ballot package with a copy of identification must be returned to the returning officer before the close of polls on polling day in order for it to be counted.
